Monique Hodgkinson – Tanyati Boxers, South Africa

I’m delighted to be returning to judge for the Boxer Association of Victoria Inc., having last had the pleasure of judging for the club in 2013. My journey with the breed spans over thirty years and has taken me around the world in both ringside and ringside-adjacent roles—as a breeder, judge, educator, and writer.

I established my Tanyati prefix in 1999 and have since bred 26 South African Champions, 2 Grand Champions, and a number of international titleholders, including dogs who have earned championships in Hungary, Brazil, and Peru. My dogs have been recognised with top-level awards, from multiple Bests in Specialty Show, Reserve Best in Show (All Breeds), and numerous Puppy and Junior in Show wins.

In 2000, I qualified as a Boxer Specialist Judge, and it has been my privilege to judge the breed at Specialty level in South Africa, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Norway, as well as at an All-Breed Championship show in Ireland. I also hold Working Group judging qualifications and actively contribute to breed education. I’ve presented seminars on key Boxer topics—such as the Illustrated Standard and Breed Type Essentials—to judges and enthusiasts in person and online, most recently on behalf of the Kennel Union of South Africa Judges Education Committee. My articles on the breed have appeared internationally in print and online.

Outside of the show world, I’m the founder and CEO of a raw dog food company, which I launched in 2011 to support optimal canine health and nutrition—a natural extension of my commitment to the wellbeing of dogs in all aspects of their lives.
These days, home life is shared with two spirited Boxer champions, ten energetic Whippets, and my endlessly supportive husband.

My heartfelt thanks go to the committee of the Boxer Association of Victoria Inc. for the kind invitation to judge your show. It’s always an honour to assess the breed I hold so dear, and I’m truly looking forward to seeing your Boxers in the ring.
